Since we first found the Forest, we’ve been brainstorming ways to learn more about it, to responsibly restore damaged portions of it, and to make sustainable use of its resources.  A few of the projects we are planning to work on after we get settled are listed here.  I will add more information and links here once we have more posts in these subjects written.

Planting vegetable gardens

Taking a plant and animal “census”

Using meat goats to help get rid of some of the invasive blackberries

Planting a Food Forest near the house – perennial edibles to attract wildlife, provide income, feed future livestock and augment our annual vegetable gardens

Raising Honeybees

Making Bigleaf Maple Syrup

Growing Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms

Growing real tea – Camillia senensis (the climate and soils should be great for this!)

Augmenting the edibles in the larger forest areas (planting more evergreen huckleberries and a grove of hazelnuts, for instance)
